Score my Etsy listing

You can fill in just one field: the tool evaluates only the data you provide. Once your initial score appears, it updates in real time as you make changes.

This tool runs in your browser: turn JavaScript on to use it. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

What the tool checks and why it matters

Every check reflects Etsy guidelines or standard optimization metrics. There is no subjective opinion on keyword choices.

SectionWhat is checkedWhy it matters
TitleLength (benchmark: at least 60 characters, up to 140)A title that is too short misses relevant materials, styles, or use cases that shoppers search for.
TitlePrimary search terms in the first 40 charactersThis is the portion visible at a glance in Etsy search results across desktop and mobile devices.
TitleNo word repeated three times, no excessive capitalizationKeyword stuffing looks unprofessional and can deter shoppers before they click.
TagsAll 13 tag slots filled, maximum 20 characters eachEvery empty tag slot is a missed opportunity to match buyer search queries.
TagsMulti-word phrases, no duplicate wordsSpecific phrases like 'hammered silver band' face more targeted competition than broad terms like 'ring'.
TagsKeyword consistency with the titleReinforcing your core title terms in your tags helps establish clear listing relevance.
DescriptionLength, primary search terms in the first 160 charactersThe first few lines of the description frequently serve as the preview snippet in external search engines.
DescriptionFull sentences reinforcing title and tag keywordsDescriptions are read by shoppers seeking details before being processed by search engines.

Examples: three listings before and after optimization

Here are titles rewritten according to the tool criteria. You can paste them into the Title field to see the score change.

AvoidSILVER RING WOMAN RING THIN RING GIFT RING

BetterHandmade 925 sterling silver hammered ring, minimalist thin band - gift for women81 characters

Removes repetitive keywords and all-caps formatting while placing material and style upfront. Secondary search phrases belong in the tags.

AvoidUnique handmade creation made with love

BetterSoy wax scented candle in amber glass jar, fig and cedarwood scent, 8 oz72 characters

Shoppers rarely search for vague phrases like unique creation. They search for specific product types, materials, and scents.

AvoidBowl

BetterHandmade blue glazed stoneware bowl, 6 inch cereal and ramen bowl65 characters

A single-word title competes with the entire ceramics category. Specifying material, color, use, and size answers buyer questions directly.

How to move from 60 to over 80 in four steps

  1. Fill all unused tag slots

This step carries significant weight. If your listing only uses 8 tags, generate additional multi-word search phrases based on materials, colors, and uses until all 13 are filled.

  2. Replace single-word tags with multi-word phrases

Transform generic tags like 'candle' into specific queries such as 'soy wax candle', 'fig scented candle', or 'amber jar candle', staying within the 20-character limit.

  3. Place core keywords at the front of your title

Put the exact product type and primary material in the first 40 characters. Keep secondary attributes or gift references toward the end.

  4. Structure the opening of your description

Start with a clear introductory sentence stating what the item is and how it is made, followed by dimensions, materials, care instructions, and processing times.

What the score does not evaluate

The score assesses listing structure and keyword consistency, not market demand. It cannot predict how many buyers search for a specific term on Etsy. Use the Etsy search bar to check autocomplete suggestions and consult your shop stats to identify search queries driving traffic. A listing scored at 90 targeting terms nobody searches for will remain hard to find.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Etsy SEO checker completely free?

Yes, it is completely free with no signup required and no usage limits. The score is calculated directly in your browser, meaning no data is sent to our servers.

What score should I aim for on an Etsy listing?

A score above 80 indicates that your listing follows structural best practices and maintains keyword consistency. Beyond technical SEO, conversions depend on photography, pricing, shipping, and customer reviews.

Why does my score change when I add a description?

The overall score only evaluates the fields you fill in. Adding a description introduces additional scoring criteria related to description length, opening text, and keyword alignment.

Is the score identical to the one inside Kizly?

Yes, it uses the exact same criteria and calculation method. Listings created with Kizly can be evaluated immediately before you copy them into your Etsy shop manager.

Does the tool check search volume for keywords on Etsy?

No, because Etsy does not publicly release official search volume data. The tool checks structural optimization and listing completeness. To gauge buyer demand, check Etsy search bar suggestions and your shop search analytics.
